{"abstract": "   This document defines new Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP)\n   options for both DHCPv4 and DHCPv6 to explicitly signal available\n   upstream and downstream data rates.  In many broadband access\n   networks, Customer Premises Equipment (CPE) and intermediate nodes\n   lack visibility into the subscriber's provisioned service tier.  By\n   communicating these capacities natively via DHCP, clients, relay\n   agents, and snooping switches can dynamically configure localized\n   traffic shaping and queuing.  This explicit signaling improves\n   overall network performance by reducing the reliance on\n   indiscriminate packet dropping and policing at the service edge.\n   Additionally, it provides the necessary capacity awareness to enable\n   effective Active Queue Management (AQM) and the Low Latency, Low\n   Loss, and Scalable Throughput (L4S) architecture.\n", "ad": null, "expires": "2027-02-28T20:23:38Z", "external_url": "", "group": "/api/v1/group/group/1665/", "id": 160779, "intended_std_level": null, "keywords": "[]", "name": "draft-ietf-intarea-dhcp-rate-signaling", "note": "", "notify": "", "pages": 22, "resource_uri": "/api/v1/doc/document/draft-ietf-intarea-dhcp-rate-signaling/", "rev": "00", "rfc": null, "rfc_number": null, "shepherd": null, "states": ["/api/v1/doc/state/1/", "/api/v1/doc/state/150/", "/api/v1/doc/state/38/"], "std_level": null, "stream": "/api/v1/name/streamname/ietf/", "submissions": ["/api/v1/submit/submission/168191/"], "tags": [], "time": "2026-08-27T20:23:38Z", "title": "DHCP Explicit Rate Signaling", "type": "/api/v1/name/doctypename/draft/", "uploaded_filename": "", "words": null}
