Ballot Text

Technical Summary

This document describes how the Alternate Marking Method can be used
as a passive performance measurement tool in an IPv6 domain. It
defines a new Extension Header Option to encode Alternate Marking
information in both the Hop-by-Hop Options Header and Destination
   Options Header.

Working Group Summary

This has had discussion on the ipv6@ list and detailed
comments were received from several people. General
   support for advancing this document.

Document Quality

There is at least one commercial implementation of alternate marking for
MPLS and SRv6. An implementation of this draft (alternative marking for
HbH and DestOpt options) as a proof of concept is in progress. This
implementation is using an experimental code point.

Personnel

   Document Shepherd: Ole Troan
   Responsible Area Director: Erik Kline

IANA Note

IANA is requested to allocate a code point from the IPv6
"Destination Options and Hop-by-Hop Options" registry
   (section 7).
