Technical Summary

This document describes how the zone identifier of an IPv6 scoped
address, defined as <zone_id> in the IPv6 Scoped Address Architecture
(RFC 4007), can be represented in a literal IPv6 address and in a
Uniform Resource Identifier that includes such a literal address. It
updates the URI Generic Syntax and Internationalized Resource
Identifier specifications (RFC 3986, RFC 3987) accordingly, and
   obsoletes RFC 6874.

Working Group Summary

Nothing of note in the working group itself.

Document Quality

There are some implementations of the changes proposed in this
   document.

External reviews were sought and received. Concerns seemed to focus
on general concerns with support for IPv6 link-local addresses in
browsers, but the stated concerns seem to be equally applicable to
RFC 6874 itself. This document does propose improvements that are
useful, even if only initially of use to command line utilities.
