Technical Summary
DVMRP is an Internet routing protocol that provides an efficient
mechanism for connection-less datagram delivery to a group of hosts
across an internetwork. It is a distributed protocol that dynamically
generates IP Multicast delivery trees using a technique called
Reverse Path Multicasting (RPM). This document is an update
to Version 1 of the protocol specified in RFC 1075.
Working Group Summary
This was a major work item of the IDMR working group in
the late 90's - the existing RFC for DVMRP describes a protocol
that is nothing like what was deployed.
Protocol Quality
Bill Fenner reviewed this document for the IESG. There are several
implementations, including one open-source and several router
vendors'. They interoperated for many years on the MBone but
an implementation report has not been written.
