Technical Summary

The Network File System v4 (NFSv4) allows a client to both open a
file and be granted a delegation of that file. This delegation
provides the client the right to authoritatively cache metadata on
the file locally. This document presents several extensions for both
the opening and delegating of the file to the client. This document
   extends both RFC8881 and RFC7863.

Working Group Summary

Agreement was reached across the WG for this draft. This draft was relatively uncontroversial.

Document Quality

There are some significant implementations (in Linux) but not broadly yet
beyond Linux. There is at least one server implementation. The Linux
implementation is part of the kernel mainline, and so included in all
distributions. This is, however, an optional feature.

Personnel

The Document Shepherd for this document is Christopher Inacio. The
Responsible Area Director is Zaheduzzaman Sarker.
