Use Cases for In-Network Computing

This document illustrates the use cases for Compute-In-the-Network (COIN). It is the first RG document from COINRG that is ready for IRSG review.

As the authors stated in the conclusion section, "this work offers no comprehensive overview of possible use cases and is thus only a snapshot of what may be possible if COIN capabilities existed." Most of the use cases described in this document were presented in the past COIN meetings. The initial idea was to identify some concrete research challenges from the discussion of the use cases. However, considering the size of the document and the maturity, the detailed research challenges were left to a dedicated document, which is in progress.

This draft itself has been presented several times to the research group for discussion. During the last call in the group, there were some detailed comments on and off the list. These comments were addressed in the revised draft.
