IETF-101 (London) DHC WG Minutes

The Dynamic Host Configuration Working Group met on Monday, March 19, 2018,
17:40-18:40 (a 1 hour session).

Bernie Volz opened the meeting and reminded folks about the new note well, that
the blue sheet was going around, and asked for Etherpad note taker volunteers.
No one stepped forward. Bernie and Tomek Mrugalski introduced themselves. Bernie
next asked if there was any agenda bashing.

Bernie announced that the re-charter was approved and showed the updated
milestones. A few milestones are due shortly. And, the WG is likely to let
draft-ietf-dhc-dhcpv6-lwm2m-bootstrap-options expire as Srinivas Rao Nalluri has
changed jobs and has lost interest for now; it is possible he may pick it up in
the future. Bernie asked if anyone else was interested in taking on this work?
No one came forward. Question will be asked on mailing list, but it is
somewhat likely this work will be abandoned.

Bernie reviewed recent events (in the slides) for 3315bis. Close to 140 comments
were addressed. Suresh thanked the co-authors for providing the Google Sheet
list of issues and tracking them, as well as for making the changes to the
document. He will follow up with one of the reviewers to confirm that issues are
satisfactorily addressed and then advance the document.

Bernie next reviewed the current WG Document status (see slides).

Tomek presented on some DHCPv6 activities at the Hackathon (see slides):
1. YANG/NETCONF implementation
2. Minimalistic 3315bis client for RIOT OS

Linhui Sun presented an update on DHCPv4 over DHCPv6 Source Address Option,
draft-ietf-dhc-dhcp4o6-saddr-opt, covering recent updates and asked the WG if a
new title (the coauthors suggest "Dynamic Softwire Provisioning using DHCPv4
over DHCPv6") because the document was more than just new options. Bernie
questioned the "Dynamic" in the title; after a short discussion Bernie
suggested to take the question about retitling to the mailing list. And, also
suggested that the IANA section direct IANA to update RFC3315bis Table 4
regarding option 90 and the new options. Otherwise, the authors felt the
document was ready for WGLC (after another update).

Zihao He then presented on the YANG Data Model for DHCPv6 Configuration,
draft-ietf-dhc-dhcpv6-yang. Recent changes and several open issues were
discussed. Tomek also raised some new issues (added to the issues tracker) found
while working on a prototype implementation for the ISC Kea server during the
Hackathon.

Tomek then presented on Link Layer Addresses Assignment Mechanism for DHCPv6,
draft-bvtm-dhc-mac-assign, a new draft that he and Bernie coauthored to
potentially be a protocol for assigning link-layer (MAC) addresses to
hypervisors and clients. There seemed to be some interest (Tim Winters) in
having the WG pursue this work, with support from the AD (Suresh). The
adoption issue and resolving the open issues will be taken up further on the
mailing list.
