Ted Hardie said that he would like to see a workshop on this topic. Suzanne Woolf suggested that this would be a good topic for the IAB retreat. Ted replied that he would like to see a proposal on this for the retreat.

5. IRTF Review: ICNRG

Dirk Kutscher, Börje Ohlman, and Dave Oran updated the IAB on the current activities of the Information-Centric Networking Research Group (ICNRG). Dirk said that there is a lively ICN community, with the ACM SIGCOMM conference on ICN and a couple of open-source projects. The ICNRG meets at all IETF meetings and usually has two additional interim meetings per year.

Dirk Kutscher noted that there had been an IPR situation with PARC that was perceived as a roadblock by some members of the community. Earlier in March, Cisco announced that they had acquired the CCN IPR from PARC, which means that the IPR clauses on the specifications drafts will change; Cisco will license it inline with the usual IETF policy.

ICNRG’s goals for 2017 include:

  • Fostering more experiments (proof of concepts) for ICN
  • Enabling creation of interoperable specifications as Experimental RFCs
  • Being the international forum where people come to share their ideas and results
  • Interacting with other IRTF groups such as T2TRG to provide useful input into the IETF.
