2. Action item updates

Done:

  • 2023-02-24: Dorothy Stanley and János Farkos to follow up with
    Pascal Thubert about a possible tutorial on RAW during the July
    802.11 plenary meeting.

Updated:

  • 2022-06-21: Rob Wilton to determine whether the NETCONF WG should
    send a liaison to 802.1 about security coordination for
    draft-ietf-netconf-keystore.

New:

  • Juan Carlos Zuniga to send email to Dorothy Stanley asking for
    access to P802.11bh so that the MADINAS Working Group can review it.

3. IETF New Work summary

Detecting Unwanted Location Trackers (DULT) - Security Area

Russ Housley reported that the DULT BOF will start a discussion around
the technical requirements and best practices to allow tracker
manufacturers to build location-tracking accessories that will be
compatible with unwanted tracking detection and alerts on mobile
platforms. This work not likely to overlap with IEEE 802, although 802
protocols are used to do some of the tracking.

Key Transparency (KEYTRANS)

Russ Housley reported that the KEYTRANS BOF is a follow-up to a BOF held
during IETF 116. The group is in the process of being chartered; at IETF
117, they will either meet to finalize work on their charter, or if
chartering has already completed, they will meet to begin work.

60802 - Standard - Time-Sensitive Networking Profile for Industrial Automation

János Farkas reported that this is a modification to an existing PAR, to
extend existing YANG modules to define remote procedure calls and
actions addressing requirements arising from industrial automation
networks.

802.1Qdy - Amendment: YANG for the Multiple Spanning Tree Protocol

János Farkas reported that this PAR amendment specifies YANG that allows
configuration and status reporting for bridges and bridge components for
the Multiple Spanning Tree Protocol (MSTP). This amendment addresses
MSTP requirements arising from industrial automation networks, updating
existing managed objects and updating the existing Management
Information Base (MIB) to match the YANG capabilities. Additionally,
this amendment addresses errors or omissions in existing functionality.

802.1DG - Standard: Time-Sensitive Networking Profile for Automotive In-Vehicle Ethernet Communications

János Farkas reported that the original PAR was set to expire in
December 2023, and this is a request to extend that until December 2025.
There is a new editor for this work and momentum to move it forward.

802.1Qdj - Amendment: Configuration Enhancements for Time-Sensitive Networking

János Farkas reported that the original PAR was set to expire in
December 2023, and this is a request to extend that until July 2024. The
document is already in WG ballot.

802.1 - Industry Connections: Nendica - ICAID

János Farkas reported that this is a request to renew the Nendica ICAID
through September 2025. The goal of this activity is to document
emerging requirements and directions for IEEE 802 networks, identify
commonalities, gaps, and trends not currently addressed by IEEE 802
standards and projects, and facilitate building industry consensus
towards proposals to initiate new standards development efforts.

802.11bn - Amendment: Enhancements for Ultra High Reliability

Dorothy Stanley reported that this PAR defines modifications to both the
IEEE Std 802.11 physical layers (PHY) and the IEEE Std 802.11 Medium
Access Control (MAC) that enhance Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN)
reliability.

Erik Kline asked if this work was expected to have any interactions with
Layer 2 or Layer 3. Dorothy Stanley replied that there are not any
interactions that she is aware of at this point, but this work is still
at an early stage.

Martin Duke asked what the proposal is to improve latency and jitter.
Dorothy Stanley replied that there are several proposals being
considered, including building on 802.11be to duplicate the transmission
over multiple links.

5. Review current coordination items

Potential Areas for IETF/IEEE802 Coordination, v42

Item 5. Enabling use of Local Addresses for virtualization and IoT

This item will be closed once draft-ietf-intarea-rfc7042bis is published
as an RFC. It completed Working Group Last Call in June 2023 and is
awaiting a writeup for the publication request.

Item 25. Layer 2/Layer 3 Interaction for Time-Sensitive Traffic

János Farkas reported that IEEE 802.1qcj and IEEE 802.1qcw are both
expected to go to REVCOM in July 2023.

IEEE 802.1qcz was approved in May 2023 and is currently with the IEEE
Editor.

IEEE 802.1dc is heading into initial SA ballot and will be discussed by
the TSN Task Group at 802 July 2023 plenary meeting.

The RAW WG will close and move its work to the DetNet WG.

Russ Housley will check on the current state of all of the relevant
DetNet documents and update the coordination list accordingly.

Item 27. Development of YANG models in the IEEE 802

Janos Farkas reported that there are now volunteers to work on an
IEEE802.1AX YANG model and he expects to see a PAR for this for by the
September 802 interim meeting.

Rob Wilton said that there hasn't been any update on common string
formats to represent MAC Addresses in YANG modules.

The Network Inventory YANG (IVY) Working Group was recently
chartered and may be of interest to IEEE. IVY will meet for the first
time at IETF 117.

Item 33. Capability Discovery

Jim Guichard has taken over from Alvaro Retana as the responsible Area
Director for this work.

Progress is being made on the protocol specifications, but the discovery
piece is still on hold until other documents are finished.

Item 34. Reliable and Available Wireless (RAW)

Carlos Bernardos and János Farkas will give a tutorial on on RAW at the
IEEE 802 Plenary meeting in July.

The RAW Working Group will close and move its work over to the DetNet
Working Group.

Item 35. MAC Address Device Identification for Network and Application Services (MADINAS)

The P802.11bh draft is in its initial WG ballot. Juan Carlos Zuniga will
send email to Dorothy Stanley asking for access to that document so that
the MADINAS Working Group can review it.

There will be an Open Roaming experiment at IETF 117.

Possible New Topics

Erik Kline reported that the BPF/eBPF (BPF) Working Group was
recently chartered and may be of interest to 802. The group will check
back on this to decide whether a coordination item is needed after the
IETF and IEEE 802 July meetings.
