3. IETF New Work summary

Network Attestation for Secure Routing (NASR) - Security Area

The Network Attestation for Secured foRwarding (NASR) BOF will discuss
use cases and a potential charter for a Working Group to address the
challenges associated with proving state and characteristics of a
network path are compliant to a set of claims, so as to achieve
predictable and verifiable forwarding behavior. The work will build as
much as possible on existing standards and implementations, focusing on
combining them in a clear and coherent manner to address secured
forwarding use cases such as those identified and described in the NASR
use cases and requirements document.

Symmetric Key Establishment and Exchange (SKEX) - Security Area

The Symmetric Key Establishment and Exchange (SKEX) BOF will discuss a
potential Working Group on protocols to assist with the secure
deployments of pre-shared keys (PSKs) for use with other protocols (such
as IPsec with RFC 8784, TLS 1.3, and MACsec) to attain post-quantum
security without the need for implementing specific and complex
post-quantum algorithm support in those protocols supporting PSKs. This
will specifically include benefitting light weight devices.

Russ Housley noted that SKEX may be relevant to IEEE 802.1.

4. 802 New Work summary

P802.1AS - Standard - timing and Synchronization for Time-Sensitive Applications - Revision to IEEE Standard 802.1AS-2020

P802.1IA is a Revision to IEEE Standard 802.1AS-2020 to remove the word
"ensure" from the PAR.

P802.3dp - Amendment - Cabling Restrictions for Single Pair Power over Ethernet (SPoE)

P802.3dp will amend IEEE Standard 802.3-2022 to address that the current
carrying capacity of certain cabling installed and proposed for SPoE
applications may be insufficient for the IEEE 802.3 ‘plug-and-play’
interoperability model. The IEEE 802.3 WG became aware that ISO/IEC JTC
1/SC 25/WG 3 is drafting standards and technical reports (e.g. ISO/IEC
11801-1/AMD1 and ISO/IEC TR 11801-9911) that support the use and reuse
of balanced multi- pair cabling systems in one pair applications,
resulting in a standards-imposed restriction of 0.75 A per conductor.
Additionally, they are defining a 23 American Wire Gauge (AWG)
single-pair channel that only supports 0.75 A per conductor.

P802.11br - Amendment - Enhanced Light Communications

P802.11br will amend IEEE Standard 802.11-2024 to provide enhanced light
communications (ELC) for Wireless LAN operation. The amendment
introduces an ELC PHY through the modification of IEEE 802.11 sub-7.25
GHz PHYs. This amendment modifies the IEEE 802.11 MAC to support the ELC
PHY and multi-link operation.
This amendment provides for compatibility with legacy IEEE 802.11
devices operating in the identified optical bands.

P802.15 - Standard for Low Rate Wireless Networks - Corrigendum to IEEE Standard 802.15.4-2024

P802.15.4-2024/Cor 1 will incorporate accumulated maintenance changes
and corrigenda (editorial and technical corrections) into IEEE Standard
802.15.4-2024.

25. Layer 2/Layer 3 Interaction for Time-Sensitive Traffic

János Farkas noted that draft-ietf-detnet-scaling-requirements is a new
proposal for Requirements for Scaling Deterministic Networks.
draft-ietf-raw-architecture-22 is currently in WG Last Call.

In TSN, P802.1AXdz/D1.1 and P802.1AS-2020-Rev/D1.0 are currently in WG
ballot, and P802.1CB-2017/Cor1/D0.1 is currently in Task Group ballot.

27. Development of YANG models in the IEEE 802

There is still an open action on common string formats to represent MAC
Addresses in YANG modules.

33. Capability Discovery

The LSVR WG recently rechartered to include discovery:

The WG will also develop protocol mechanisms for the Layer-3 discovery
of neighboring routers running BGP-SPF for various BGP peering models
thereby providing the ability to discover the properties of adjacent
BGP-SPF routers for advertisement as LSVs. Such mechanisms must
support the discovery of the link and node attributes such as
Autonomous System numbers, IP addresses, encapsulation support, and
other information as may be necessary for the BGP-SPF protocol and
network operations. The mechanism should also support the monitoring
of reachability of neighboring routers over links as well as leverage
the use of existing mechanisms such as BFD for faster liveness
monitoring.

35. MAC Address Device Identification for Network and Application Services (MADINAS)

At the last meeting, the group discussed closing this item when the
MADINAS WG concludes, which was expected to be soon. Éric Vyncke
reported that all of the MADINAS documents are currently in the RFC
Editor Queue, but there has been a pre-draft proposal on the MADINAS
email list about BSSID randomization that might be picked up by the WG.
If that happens, the work should be closely coordinated with IEEE 802.

6. Future meeting plans

The IETF and IEEE 802 leadership are planning a full-day in-person
meeting on 2025-07-26 in Madrid. Jon Rosdahl will be in touch with Jay
Daley to sort out billing for the event.

Jon Rosdahl said that IEEE had hoped to be able to use IETF's wireless
equipment for this meeting. Warren Kumari suggested a call with a few
people from the IETF NOC, Linespeed, and Jon to sort this out.

János Farkas noted that the last time IETF and IEEE 802 met concurrently
in 2018, they had also planned a half-day technical workshop in addition
to the leadership meetings. János will propose an agenda for a possible
technical workshop on the coordination mailing list.
