Reminder about IoT directorate reviews

Sometimes we get answer to review requests from directorate members that
they "are not experts on the topic". You don't need to be expert, or
often even particularly well informed, of the topic of the draft, but
provide general review with focus on IoT-related topics. Chairs usually
try to assign reviews based on who we think would know the area best,
but sometimes such persons are already authors / active participants or
we don't find a good match and will do best-effort assignments.

Remember to accept/decline the review request as soon as you can so we
know if we need to ask someone else to review.

Overview of the IETF/IRTF IoT groups

6lo (Carles Gomez / Shwetha Bhandari)

  • 6lo will meet in Madrid

  • 6 WG documents:

    • IPv6 Neighbor Discovery Prefix Registration
      (draft-ietf-6lo-prefix-registration-13)

      • Currently in state "IESG Evaluation::AD Followup" (1
        remaining DISCUSS)

    • Fixing the C-Flag in EARO (draft-ietf-6lo-updating-rfc-8928-04)

      • Currently in state "IESG Evaluation::Revised I-D Needed" (1
        remaining DISCUSS)

    • Path-Aware Semantic Addressing (PASA) for Low power and Lossy
      Networks (draft-ietf-6lo-path-aware-semantic-addressing-11)

      • WGLC done, Shepherd review uploaded, ready to progress, but
        AD requested to hold it until publication can be requested
        for GAAO, since GAAO is a normative reference in the PASA
        draft.

    • Generic Address Assignment Option for 6LoWPAN ND
      (draft-ietf-6lo-nd-gaao-03)

      • 2 early reviews (intdir, genart). Once updated, the draft
        may be getting ready for WGLC

    • Transmission of SCHC-compressed packets over IEEE 802.15.4
      networks (draft-ietf-6lo-schc-15dot4-09)

      • Being updated (to support SCHC-based compression of UDP and
        CoAP, with 6LoWPAN/6lo for IPv6 and routing headers)

    • Transmission of IPv6 Packets over Short-Range Optical Wireless
      Communications (draft-ietf-6lo-owc-03)

      • Updates planned for the security considerations

  • Published RFC 9770

    • Protecting EST Payloads with OSCORE
      (draft-ietf-ace-coap-est-oscore)

      • New draft updloaded in March, addressing comments recieved
        and interoperability concerns

    • Short Distribution Chain (SDC) Workflow and New OAuth Parameters
      for the Authentication and Authorization for Constrained
      Environments (ACE) Framework
      (draft-ietf-ace-workflow-and-params)

      • New draft uploaded in March, minor updates in response to
        comments. New title.

    • Additional Formats of Authentication Credentials for the
      Datagram Transport Layer Security (DTLS) Profile for
      Authentication and Authorization for Constrained Environments
      (ACE) (draft-ietf-ace-authcred-dtls-profile)

      • New draft uploaded in March, responding to feedback received
        since adoption at IETF 121.

    • Ephemeral Diffie-Hellman Over COSE (EDHOC) and Object Security
      for Constrained Environments (OSCORE) Profile for Authentication
      and Authorization for Constrained Environments (ACE)
      (draft-ietf-ace-edhoc-oscore-profile)

      • New draft uploaded in March, lots of major updates including
        rework of rules for session IDs, validation of AUTH_CRED_C
        at AS, changes to EDHOC reverse message flow, and so on.

    • The Group Object Security for Constrained RESTful Environments
      (Group OSCORE) Profile of the Authentication and Authorization
      for Constrained Environments (ACE) Framework
      (draft-ietf-ace-group-oscore-profile)

      • New draft uploaded in March with significant updates, in
        particular, PoP is now optional, since it isn't always
        necessary and has sometimes been done elsewhere. Better
        support for multiple profiles as well.

    • Publish-Subscribe Profile for Authentication and Authorization
      for Constrained Environments (ACE)
      (draft-ietf-ace-pubsub-profile)

      • New draft uploaded in January, proposal is to drop MQTT and
        make this CoAP specific. No objection in room at 122.
      • Following up on that, submitted v -00 of new WG document,
        repurposed to consider specifically CoAP and the CoAP
        pub-sub architecture defined in CoRE

ASDF (Michael Richardson / Lorenzo Corneo)

AK: SDF base spec done and in RFC editor queue. Current focus on
extensions, e.g., link type information and metadata for digital twin
use cases. Finalizing NIPC APIs.

Working Group Last Call (WGLC) for the Use of Hybrid Public-Key
Encryption (HPKE) with CBOR Object Signing and Encryption (COSE)
specification

will run for two weeks, ending on Friday, June 20, 2025. -> Request
Input.

  • LAKE requested a 1.5h slot at IETF 123
  • All six adopted documents advance; path is clear and authors are
    engaged.

  • Following discussion of last interim meeting
    (https://datatracker.ietf.org/doc/minutes-interim-2025-lake-02-202505261400/),
    we updated the WG's Milestones to reflect reality:

    • Four milestones each associated to one adopted draft and last
      estimated date of completion June 2026.

  • "Post Quantum": Related I-D proposed about post quantum kem, to be
    presented and discussed at IETF 123. Rough consensus for now we will
    not modify the charter, but Post-Quantum may be coming, we will
    discuss in Madrid.

  • ROLL requested a 1h slot for IETF 123
  • enrollment-priority is in progress, near to close all open issues,
    next for WGLC.

CG: meeting in Madrid. Bi-weekly interims. Several WG docs updated, SCHC
for ICMP and SCHC over networks prone disruptions. Also individual SCHC
for QUIC. Plan to have side meeting in Madrid focusing on SCHC
architecture.
