Reminder about IoT directorate reviews

Sometimes we get answer to review requests from directorate members that
they "are not experts on the topic". You don't need to be expert, or
often even particularly well informed, of the topic of the draft, but
provide general review with focus on IoT-related topics. Chairs usually
try to assign reviews based on who we think would know the area best,
but sometimes such persons are already authors / active participants or
we don't find a good match and will do best-effort assignments.

Remember to accept/decline the review request as soon as you can so we
know if we need to ask someone else to review.

Overview of the IETF/IRTF IoT groups

6lo (Carles Gomez / Shwetha Bhandari)

6lo will meet in Montreal.

6 WG documents.

2 WG documents in the RFC Editor Queue (both in EDIT state):

4 other WG documents in earlier stages:

Individual drafts:

  • Security considerations for IPv6 over OWC
    (draft-choi-6lo-owc-security-03)

    • Authors would like to integrate this content into the main IPv6
      over OWC draft
  • Transmission of IPv6 over Multidrop Serial Bus/Token Passing (MS/TP)
    Networks (draft-lynn-6lo-6lobac-bis-00)

    • Intended to obsolete RFC 8163 (6lobac), some fixes and
      terminology update

ACE (Loganaden Velvindron / Tim Hollebeek)

ANIMA (Sheng Jiang / Toerless Eckert)

ASDF (Michael Richardson / Lorenzo Corneo)

CBOR (Barry Leiba / Christian Amsüss / Paul Hoffman)

Paul joined chairs team to help assess consensus situation in 3
slow-moving documents. WG focusing on those.

Regular interims, and will meet in person.

  • Deterministic encoding: Consensus that work is needed, but adopted
    document
far from consensus. Some push for changes to CBOR, but
    not clear yet.
  • Diagnostic notation probably on a good path, but occasionally
    entangled in encoding topics.
  • packed about in-place consumable elided repeated (or otherwise
known) items. Authors consider it done, unclear concerns (mainly for
lack of bandwidth competing with other topics).

CoRE (Jaime Jimenez / Marco Tiloca / Carsten Bormann)

COSE (Ivaylo Petrov / Michael B. Jones)

DetNet (Lou Berger / János Farkas)

IOTOPS (IOT Operations) (Alexey Melnikov, Henk Birkholz)

(Carsten filling in)

Terminology document has been around for long time. Document is revised,
7228bis, picking up speed. Have a look, several reviewers active right
now.

LAKE (Mališa Vučinić / Renzo Navas)

  • LAKE did not have an interim meeting, will meet in Montreal (1h30)
  • Adopted documents advancing since last IETF, 4 out of 5 will be
    presented at IETF 124
  • Working on rechartering to include quantum-resilient solutions,
    obtaining consensus (almost there)
    • Quantum-Resilient: already new drafts from 4 different groups of
people (2 version -00 for next meeing)

RATS (Kathleen Moriarty/ Ned Smith)

ROLL (Aris Koutsiamanis/ Ines Robles)

  • ROLL had an interim meeting on 22 October, not meet in Montreal
  • enrollment-priority is in WGLC.
  • dis-modifications aims to be merged with dis-modifications-use cases
  • nsa-extension in progress

SCHC (Alexander Pelov / Pascal Thubert)

Carles Gomez (filling in): two interims since Madrid. Two docs discussed
on concepts and terminology. Doc progressing on protocol numbers. Also
progress in 8824 update draft and some additional discussions. Session
planned for Montreal.

SCIM (Aaron Parecki / Nancy Cam-Winget)

SUIT (Akira Tsukamoto, Jacqueline McCall)

TEEP (Tiru Reddy / Nancy Cam-Winget)

IRTF

T2TRG (Ari Keränen / Carsten Bormann)

  • Had interesting interim meeting 2025-10-13 on Composable Code.
  • Will have a f2f side meeting in Montreal (Monday 3rd, 8:00
    EST).
  • Planning look at role of IETF IoT technologies enabling AI agent
interaction, e.g., usefulness of the self-description mechanisms we
have and the gaps -- what is needed/how to evolve them.
    • Interest of other IoT groups to look into the topic jointly?
