SML Agenda Minutia February 2025 Interim Tuesda, February 18th, 2025 17:00 (UTC) 1 hours Meetecho: https://meetings.conf.meetecho.com/interim/?group=f0c93d0f-ce07-46c1-9444-0d8d34d64ad5 Chair: Alexey Melnikov & Arnt Gulbrandsen Notes Taker: Arnt Gulbrandsen Note Well Note takers First issue: Schemas, how to register HJ unsure, asks about IANA Ben suggests pushing people in the general direction of schema.org Michael Richardson says Carsten and the asdf WG has been through this, and draft-ietf-asdf-sdf appendix B is great Next issue: Full representation, multipart/alternative Does that break major clients? Arnt: doesn't look like that, have mail from apple mail that seems as if it would break the same recipients. Ban: typical clients have a somewhat more restricted view of what's possible, recommends avoiding very exotic configurations such as Content-Type: multipart/alternative with content-Disposition: attachment. Long discussion of corner cases. Arnt: suggest specifying only a message where there is a single top-level multipart/alternative, providing no guidance relating to more complex structure, and _perhaps_ suggesting that people are on their own of they want to go there. Ben: roughly agrees with Arnt, and suggests that clients will break or behave surprisingly when receiving exotic structures. HJ requests that Arnt look at _why_ clients generate complicated m/a structure; Alexey wants to look at the messages too. Discussion of whether more complex structures might perhaps make sense in the context of S/MIME or currently unknown contexts. Arnt again suggests leaving complex structures unspecified, not banned. Ben agrees. Alexey requests creating a github issue for this; HJ promises to do this.
