RH:

Here are my comments on draft-ietf-manet-olsr-10

- move references from Abstract to Introduction

- turn off hyphenation

- drop section 1.1 and renumber the subsequent sections

- In section 20.1, provide a reference to at least one "regular
cryptographic technique" for confidentiality

- In section 20.2, the phrase "Authenticated signatures on control
messages" does not make sense.  It is not clear that digital signatures are
needed; keyed message authentication codes are sufficient if the
authentication does not need to persist over more than one hop.  Is IPsec
ESP the expected solution?

AM:
The analysis of congestion avoidance is light.  While it's good that
only the MPR  in each single-hop cluster floods, that is still quite a
large number of flooding nodes in the dense nets described.  But this
is an Experimental, so it seems acceptable to let it go forward.

That said, I have a suggestion to improve the impact when OLSR shares the
net with other traffic.  Synchronization prevention is only a MAY because
it is viewed as a nuisance for the protocol, but not viewed as a concern
for surrounding traffic.  However, waves of synchronized routing flood and
forwarding are problems for coexisting TCP traffic on a net, so I suggest
that the jittering in be upgraded from a MAY to a SHOULD or even a MUST.

Subject: OLSR Submission Request

The following OLSR draft has completed WG last call and passed my initial ID nits sanity check.  The authors did some work over the lasf few weeks and revised the document once to integrate WG comments and Chair nits (e.g., too many authors,etc)..

I believe this is ready for your review and am requesting this now be submitted for EXPERIMENTAL consideration. As an independent implementor of a working implementation based upon this Justin Dean also reviewed this concerning technical content.

Cheers,
Joe
