Benchmarking Basic OSPF Single Router Control Plane Convergence

Received changes through RFC Editor sync (changed abstract to 'This document provides suggestions for measuring OSPF single router control plane convergence. Its initial emphasis is on the control plane of a single OSPF router. We do not address forwarding plane performance.

  1. Abstract should not contain references.

  2. Section 4 - IMHO, this document will not standardise the conducting
      and reporting of convergence related measurements.

  3.  Section 4 - Use "inter-area" consistently rather than "Inter area" and
      "interarea".

  4. Section 7.1 - Although I find this technique percarious at best,
I'd think
      the two LSAs would have to be sent in the same LSU packet.

  5. Section 7.2 - The number of LSUs will also affect flooding time.
 
  6. Section 7.3 - Measuring SPF time in this manner is my main concern
      as articulated above.

  7. Section 8.2 - How do you guarentee the generator is faster than the
DUT?
      Perhaps a generator to generator measurement should be taken to assure
      this.

  8. Section 8.4 - Factoring out wait time in this measurement is my
second (albeit
      less serious) concern.

  9. Section 8.5 - Why not have the gernator snoop all the packets on
the broadcast
      network and measure the time from the first DD packet and the time
of the first network
      LSA. Unfortunately, the minimum LSA interval will impact the total
time.
