RFC SERIES OVERSIGHT COMMITTEE (RSOC) February 20, 2018 RSOC Meeting Reported by: Cindy Morgan, IETF Secretariat ATTENDEES --------------------------------- Sarah Banks (Chair) Nevil Brownlee Heather Flanagan (RSE, non-voting) Joel Halpern Tony Hansen Bob Hinden Cindy Morgan (Scribe, non-voting) Adam Roach Robert Sparks (Lead) Martin Thomson Portia Wenze-Danley (IAOC Liaison, non-voting) MINUTES --------------------------------- 0. Review of minutes The minutes of the 16 November 2017 and 15 January 2018 RSOC meetings were approved. 1. Format Work Update Heather Flanagan reported that the RPC has made progress testing the changes they need to make in their environment to support the new RFC formats. They have tested the expected changes on the info pages, the search result pages, and in the various scripts that create the indexes and public announcements. Since there will be a significant increase in the number of files per RFC (from 2 to 4, with more possibly being added later), the RPC has worked out a different directory structure and tested the scripts that will support moving files around. Their database has also been updated to allow UTF-8 encoded strings. The RPC is still testing the updates needed to the errata system. The text converter to v2 tool has been reviewed; the focus now is on the text converter to v3 tool. The svgchecker, RFClint, and xmldiff tools for Phase 1 have been checked in, and things are on track for Phase 2. 2. Fifty Years of RFCs - April 2019 Heather Flanagan noted that April 2019 will mark 50 years of RFCs. She is planning to put together an RFC that describes the current state of the RFC Series, updating RFC 2555, "30 Years of RFCs" and RFC 5540, "40 Years of RFCs." Heather plans to ask RSAG and RSOC for input on this document. 3. IETF 101 planning Heather Flanagan reported that the RFC Editor will hold their regular office hours during IETF 101. The RSAG/ISEB will meet on Tuesday, and RSOC will meet on Thursday. Heather is also planning side meetings to discuss revision control and potential changes to the AUTH48 process. 4. Executive Session: RPC 2017 Evaluation The 2017 RFC Evaluation was discussed in an executive session. 5. AOB Robert Sparks reported that an erratum was filed that requests that the DOI be removed from reference to BCP 14 since BCPs don't have DOIs. Robert asked the RSOC to think about how this should be handled for BCPs that are comprised of more than a singe RFC.
