Subject: RE: Issues with SLAAC Date: 2010-10-29 From: Ralph Droms, Internet Area Director To: Gavin Young, Broadband Forum Technical Committee Chair CC: David Allan Thank you for your liaison of September 24, 2010, asking about the status and future progress on IETF Internet Draft draft-krishnan-6man-rs-mark. The 6man working group has just completed its review of draft-krishnan-6man-rs-mark-08 for adoption as a working group work item. The working group chairs have decided there is consensus in support of draft-krishnan-6man-rs-mark-08 and it will be adopted as a work item. While draft-krishnan-6man-rs-mark has been adopted as a 6man working group work item, there have been several issues raised during the working group consensus call. The 6man working group may make significant changes to the mechanisms in the specification before considering it for publication as an RFC, and indeed there is no guarantee that the group will publish the specification. To aid in the review and development of the specification, it would be useful if you send a description of BBF's N:1 VLAN architecture and a set of requirements to the 6man working group. A solution based on DHCPv6 could use existing line-identification mechanisms and would not require the development of any new protocol extensions.
