Dear Danny and Stewart: The MFA Forum Technical Committee is progressing a document on ATM to MPLS SPVC interworking. This document employs the PWE3 / L2VPN single sided LDP signaling procedures as defined in draft-ietf-l2vpn-signaling-03.txt. In certain situations, the configuration information indicating the PW Type necessarily resides at the passive end of the signaling exchange. It would greatly simplify our work if a mechanism were defined to allow the passive end to determine the PW Type. One possible mechanism the Technical Committee has discussed would be to provide a "wildcard" PW Type which would match any PW Type except itself. In this way the initiating end could signal with the wildcard. The passive end would respond with its configured PW type which would then be used for both directions of the pseudowire. Thank you for your consideration of this matter. Cordially, Rao Cherukuri Chairman, MFA Forum Technical Committee
