To: The IEEE Next Generation Service Overlay Network (NGSON) Study Group Attn: Rick Townsend (Acting Chair) - ricktownsend@comcast.net Noelle Humenick (Secretary) - n.humenick@ieee.org Our attention was brought to the activity of the IEEE Next Generation Service Overlay Network (NGSON) Study Group and the approval of the P1903 Project Approval Request (PAR) for a Next Generation Service Overlay Network. As the scope of the work includes a framework of Internet Protocol (IP)-based service overlay networks and specifies context-aware applications over IP networks as well as relates to other aspects like routing and forwarding, we would like to draw your attention to the technical work going on in the Real-Time Applications and Infrastructure (RAI), Routing, Internet and Transport Areas of the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF). A list of the IETF Areas and active Working Groups charters may be found at http://www.ietf.org/html.charters/wg-dir.html. Specifically we believe that work going on in the p2psip, ccamp, mpls, hip, shim6, l3vpn, l2vpn, mmusic, behave and nsis Working Groups may be of interest for your future work, and there are probably a number of approved RFCs and other activities that may be added to the list. We suggest that as the P1903 project activity develops you continue to update the IETF and relevant areas and working groups on the progress, and let them know when you reach major milestones for review or completion. Please do not hesitate to contact directly the leadership of the IETF and copy Dan Romascanu (who acts as contact point for the IETF pertaining this issue) with any questions or requests for clarification concerning the Internet Protocol (IP) related work done in the IETF. Yours Sincerely, Olaf Kolkman, IAB Chair Russ Housley, IESG and IETF Chair
