Q.14/15 would like to inform the IETF CCAMP Working Group of Q.14/15 activities on ASON signalling protocols.  Initiation of this work was communicated in a previous Q14/15 communication to the IETF dated 12 February 2002.  Signalling documents in progress are:

  • Draft new Recommendation G.7713.2, based on the GMPLS RSVP-TE signalling protocol
  • Draft new Recommendation G.7713.3, based on the GMPLS CR-LDP signalling protocol
  • Contributions were considered that identified and proposed solutions to add features to the signalling protocols that comply with the set of requirements from G.807/Y.1302, G.8080/Y.1304 and G.7713/Y.1704.  Text describing support for soft permanent connections and logical call/connection separation was added.

Please consider including the proposed solutions provided in G.7713.2 and G.7713.3 to update the existing GMPLS signaling work in support of ASON requirements. We hope that you can help expedite the assignment of appropriate additional error codes/values by IANA.  These are needed for both RSVP-TE and CR-LDP.

We are also commencing work on requirements for the next phase of our effort that we expect might impact GMPLS protocol evolution, including:

    1. Resilience mechanisms: Q12/15 has started work on control plane resiliency requirements.  Enhancements to the protocol (RSVP-TE, CR-LDP) for resilience will be considered when these requirements are defined.
    2. Support for control plane restoration of connections
Two documents are available at the ITU-T public ftp site for your information. These are the two draft Recommendations as described above.  Q.14/15 looks forward to your input to help progress this work in Q.14/15. A separate Communication Statement has been sent to the Optical Internetworking Forum (OIF) on this topic.
