INTERNATIONAL ORGANISATION FOR STANDARDISATION ORGANISATION INTERNATIONALE DE NORMALISATION ISO/IEC JTC1/SC29/WG11 CODING OF MOVING PICTURES AND ASSOCIATED AUDIO INFORMATION ISO/IEC/JTC1/SC29/WG11 MPEG2002/ N4663 March 2002, Jeju Source : Convenor Title : Liaison to IETF In its meeting of March 11-15, 2002 in Jeju, Korea, WG11 (MPEG) reviewed the situation with respect to the status of the companion internet drafts for transport of MPEG-4 content over IP, draft-ietf-avt-mpeg4-multisl-04.txt and draft-ietf-avt-mpeg4-simple.01.txt, respectively. MPEG concluded that: 1) there is a clear market need for a general RTP payload format for carriage of MPEG-4 content; 2) there is substantial procedural risk on promotion of two companion internet drafts to RFC; 3) there is an urgent market need to promote draft-ietf-avt-mpeg4-simple.01.txt to RFC, which has a clearly higher priority than promotion of draft-ietf-avt-mpeg4-multisl-04.txt to RFC; 4) there is desire in MPEG to consider requirements beyond draft-ietf-avt-mpeg4-simple.01.txt, both from the current MPEG-4 perspective and on carriage of future MPEG-4 streams, in particular MPEG-4 part 10 video, often also referred to as AVC-video or H.26L. To anticipate on the above situation and to minimise the risk for promotion to RFC of draft-ietf-avt- mpeg4-simple.01.txt, MPEG suggests to decouple both companion drafts and to make draft-ietf-avt- mpeg4-simple.01.txt a stand-alone document. Furthermore, MPEG proposes to continue its joint effort with IETF on draft-ietf-avt-mpeg4-multisl-04.txt with the objective of positioning it as a super-set (extension) of draft-ietf-avt-mpeg4-simple.01.txt.
