Liaisons referred by this one Liaison to BBF on “Quality of Outcome (QoO)”
Body
We thank IETF IPPM for the liaison regarding “Quality of Outcome (QoO)”
introduced in IETF draft-ietf-ippm-qoo. Noting that this informational draft
builds upon BBF work on Quality Attenuation, we particularly appreciate the
request to review the draft prior to the IETF Last Call.

From our review, the Broadband Forum (BBF) would like to provide the following
observations on draft-ietf-ippm-qoo-04: 1. The reference to BBF TR-452.1 is
correct and appropriate. 2. The use of the term Quality Attenuation (QA) in the
draft is consistent with BBF’s definition. 3. Whilst the BBF defined the term
‘outcome' more generically as 'something that can be observed to start at some
point in time and may be observed to complete at some later time', we also use
the more specific term 'application outcome’ which aligns well to the use of
the term ‘quality of outcome’ in this draft. 4. We applaud the requirement for
composable metrics stated in this draft as this is also recognised as a
critical requirement by our members. 5. Overall, we see that this work builds
appropriately on our work, and we find no contradictions with our published or
in-progress work on Quality Attenuation.

We take this opportunity to bring your attention to our related published works
which are available here
(https://www.broadband-forum.org/technical-library/?number=452):
   TR-452.4: QED Measurement Formats
TR-452.2: Quality Attenuation Measurements using Active Test Protocols
TR-452.5: TR-452.5 Quality Attenuation Measurements Using L2 PM OAM
TR-452.7: Quality Attenuation Measurements Using L2 and L3 Active Protocols
   in Multicast Environments

BBF acknowledges and appreciates the work of IETF IPPM on this draft. We look
forward to continued constructive cooperation between our organizations.

Sincerely,
Lincoln Lavoie,
Broadband Forum Technical Committee Chair
