IETF 109 HACKATHON ------------------ Report from the Roughtime project - Presenter: Watson Ladd - Summary: - Small number of earlier version have been deployed - Not enough servers on version -03 - Need of clients Discussion ---------- - Dieter: Particular ares of concern and but darf ready for WGLC. Is that a contradiction? - Watson: WGLC only after those issues have been clarified - Watson: ask for comments, especially if people have concerns or see major issues. - Karen: Did you have any participants at the project during the hackathon? - Watson: Yes, Johan Lindquist tested interoperability with its clients - Karen: Estimate of time schedule for next update - Watson: Next update within a months NTP V5 DISCUSSION ----------------- - Karen: There is no published draft. There is a draft in Github from Miroslav - Karen: There is a NTPv5 wiki (https://trac.ietf.org/trac/ntp) - Karen: Miroslav is not at the call. Discussion ---------- - Karen: Has someone read it and want to discuss it? - Watson: Read it and sent comments to the mailing list. Currently, it is not to say much about it. IT is a good starting point. - Karen: One of the concerns is hat it narrows the scope compared to NTPv5. We need to have serious conversation about this. - Dieter: It needs to be discussed whether NTPv5 should apply security by default - Watson: Network wire protocol and steering algorithm should be in different documents - Karen: That is agreed on. - Karen: Need discussion about backward compatibility, different mode of server operation. The current draft only specifies client-server mode and deprecate the other v4-modes. - Doug: Other mode of operation. Marking them as not recommended. This group has to discuss this. - Karen: In the current years we use the wiki to get the requirements. It would be helpful to use them. RECHARTERING ------------ Karen: we have promising rechartering the text for a while. There is an etherpad to draft the charter. There are some volunteers, but no contributions up to now. Like to work on that for the next interim. Karen will send the link of the etherpad to the mailing list. AOB --- - No - Schedule for a virtual interim (probably mid January)
