Mike: maybe, good comment. we’ll look into adding something. EUMETSAT’s Use of Multicast over the MBONE Oriol Espanyol, 30 min Lenny: what’s the encryption/authentication like? Oriol: usb key to unlock some restricted data, done after file is fully received. Tim: It’s the end site or the NRENs that won’t multicast? Oriol: Typically the NRENs, but GEANT is doing it well. We use GRE to bridge, with some pain for setting up. Jake: how many users? Oriol: 4.5k for the satellite thing started 20 years ago. Few users for the internet paths/terrestrial links, but we think in the future it will only be available this way. Lenny: what about unicast/CDNs? How much do you need this to be multicast? Oriol: data is very dynamic, the CDN data replication model does not make as much sense, because it’s only useful during a certain window. cost of multicast link is much lower than alternatives. Internal evaluations of cost is that multicast is fixed cost regardless of user count, but satellite capacity is very expensive, so we’re moving to the similar concept with a fixed cost regardless of number of users. The multicast approach is an order of magnitude less. Multicast to the Browser: draft-ietf-mboned-ambi, draft-ietf-mboned-cbacc, draft-ietf-mboned-dorms, draft-ietf-mboned-mnat Jake Holland, 30 min Greg Shepherd: Is this just game/file download traffic or all your traffic? Jake Holland: Game/download traffic we feel can be offloaded, typical day traffic profile. This doesn’t look at peak “mother?s day” events that would be much bigger. Lenny Giuliano: Review priority of docs? JH: I’d prefer if people were experimenting at this point. GS: Is there a browser build that runs on a big-screen target like Roku or Stick? JH: I’d be willing to help you get that running. Use of Multicast at Meetecho Lorenzo Miniero, 30 min
