Hello all. I will be your friendly jabber scribe today. You can ask questions remotely through MeetEcho, or clearly let me know that you would like me to relay your question to the mic.

Since ANYCAST is used widely, can ANYCAST address be treated as Multicast address? so the ports belonging to the ANYCAST can register and the network can forward appropriately?

Floor mike level seems a bit low. Keyur and Rudiger both quiet.

@linda: what port(s) an anycast service is meant to serve/use is utterly random

@linda - no, in anycast, only the closest (topologically) node receives the packets, in multicast, all that are the destination for a particular multicast destination address

My point was that if you give a customer the ability to change routing policy for a prefix by applying a community, they will use it any prefix that they want differnt behavior on...

", "time": "2022-07-28T21:57:08Z"}, {"author": "Jeff Tantsura", "text": "

in p2p relationship, peers can agree on what anycast community is, I'd be rather reluctant to accept (and react) on communities set more than one 1 hop(AS) away

I get the the intent was for Anycast, but they can, and will apply it to $whatever.

yep, anything that could be abused, will be abused :)

This prefix is taking a path I don't like, lets twiddle this community on or off and see what happend.

i would suggest to measure actual community use and the utter lack of trust one can put in them and write an academic paper; but we already did.
