- Abstract: Across Europe, platform regulation over the last two years has been dominated by one worry: minors and social media. The Digital Services Act made platforms responsible for a high level of privacy and safety for children, also framed as protection by design. But enforcement has been slow, and a shift in the regulatory approach from mitigation of risks to the exclusion of risks is palpable. One after the other, national governments have drafted laws to block children, and in some cases young people more broadly, from accessing social platforms. This talk will focus on the current policy landscape: how we ended up here, what the rules require, and where to go from here.
