6RENUM Thursday, 8 November 2012   Meeting minutes   THURSDAY, November 8, 2012 1730-1830  Afternoon Session III Salon A =====================================================   * Administrivia (5 mins)   Note Well   (Chairs) 3 documents have been revised     * draft-ietf-6renum-gap-analysis-04 (10 mins)   (Bing Liu) Updated twice since last meeting. Some main text revisions have happened. Re-wrote section 6.3 based upon list feedback Edited some text in Self-conbtained configuration in individual device Open questions have been added to the draft   Brian Carpenter: mentioned that there are people that for licensing must specify the actual IPV6 address. Recommendscompanies avoid licensing that way. Is the document ok for WGLC?   Several people have read the draft, most say they are happy with it. Tim will do a shepherd write-up.     * Next steps (30 mins)   Inventory of protocol work to be undertaken elsewhere   Confirmation of WG closure   Open discussion   (Brian Carpenter)   Brian mentioned that there is no draft behind these slides Some items need to be implemented or deployed Use names, and not addresses Consider use of SLP Deploy ULA prefix to stabilize addresses used for internal traffic   Fred Baker: When you say ULA prefix you mean to say 2nd prefix. Why exactly a 2nd ULA. Answer Brian: it is mainly a prefix that is not assigned by the provider   Brian: Use IPAM/Asset Management tool for easier renumbering   The management tool will need some mechanisms (DHCP-PD, DHCPv6 reconfigure/renew) ICMPv6 router renumbering (RFC2894) is a stale RFC (uses Site Local). If recommended, needs a –bis version.   Phillip Matthews: it would be good to put all of these into BCP format. v6OPS has already a doc, enterprise-incremental deployment, maybe add that in the document.   Specifications needed: 1.  DHCPv6 and SLAAC/nd influence each other 2.  What should a DHCPv6 configured host do when it receives RA messages? 3.  What should a SLAAC configured host do when it receives RA messages with M set? 4.  See analysis in draft-liu-6renum-dhcpv6-slaac-switching 5.  Bulk DHCPv6 reconfigure mechanism needed 6.  Clarify how MIPv6 host rebinds with home agent if the latter is renumbered while mobile is disconnected Friendly AD Ron Bonica will check with the WG Chairs where this info would go Brian agrees to put into an internet-draft so this info will not be dropped       * Renumbering using an OSS (15 mins)   (Fred Baker)   Presentation of slide ware by Fred Remove a macro-prefix from an area Remove a micro-prefix Remove a prefix from an interface/subscriber   Q: Where does the WG want to go with this? Tim: Maybe chop it into pieces and take it from there? Fred: Would this be a good thing to do, well “yes”. We have to look into it from the perspective of some sort of business Lee: if it is tractable, can it be done in steps? Ron (as AD): Maybe incremental value can be found in modeling the little pieces. Taken as a whole, it’s too big to solve. Tim: maybe it is numbering problem and not a ‘renumbering’ problem Phillip Matthews: you remove an address and you take an address… why not add a number and wait till the node moves and then remove the old number   Recap by Tim: Brian Carpenter will converge his slides in an internet draft Authors of draft-v6ops-enterprise-incremental will incorporate Phillip Mathews’s suggestion to integrate advice Start a Mailing list up and see if we can take up the bite size pieces  Working group is now put in dormant sleep mode
