How the BoF got started and a brief description of the NIC Collection, now at the Computer History Museum.

II. Marc Weber, BoF Chair 5 min.
Welcome and introduction to the BoF proceedings. Definition of BoF tasks and unique IETF roles. The need to stop tossing what we create. Survey of existing efforts including at the Computer History Museum and need for wider and international coordination

III. Common Myths 5 min
The difference between informal archives and permanent repositories and need for explicit steps.

IV. PROPOSED GOALS 10 min

1) Identify networking-related historical materials, around the world
2) Match materials with institutions that may preserve them, around the world
3) Recommend procedures for real-time preservation of selected materials

V. INITIAL BRAINSTORM 30 min

How best to identify/describe archiving institutions world-wide Ð 10 min.

How best to identify/describe potential historical materials world-wide, including those generated by the IETF and its members. WhoÕs out there? What do they have? What is missing? What information would be helpful to potential donors? Ð 20 min.


VI. CURRENT ACTIVITIES REPORT 15 min

Capsule introductions of current, active networking history activities by BoF attendees. Will include in-person comments on Asian efforts and remote comments from UCLA and Spain.
