RFC SERIES OVERSIGHT COMMITTEE (RSOC) January 8, 2014 Teleconference Reported by: Cindy Morgan, IETF Secretariat ATTENDEES --------------------------------- Nevil Brownlee Heather Flanagan, RFC Series Editor Joel Halpern Tony Hansen Bob Hinden Alexey Melnikov, RSOC Chair Cindy Morgan, Scribe Ray Pelletier, IAOC Liaison REGRETS --------------------------------- Bernard Aboba Joe Hildebrand MINUTES --------------------------------- 0. Agenda Bash 1. Minutes discussion / approval The minutes of the 7 November 2013 and the 11 December 2013 meetings were approved. 2. Updates and discussion topics 2.1. RFC Format Heather Flanagan reported that she is working on a draft on the use of non-ascii characters in RFCs. The RFC Format Design team is working on the XML vocabulary document. The PDF and SVG requirements are also in the process of being documented. Heather expects to have all of the requirements documents finished in time for work to begin on the specifications in February. 2.2. Style Guide Heather Flanagan reported that she sent a draft of the style guide I-D to the RSOC; she still needs to add a pointer to the final web page. She expects to have the I-D through the approval process by March 2014. There is currently a discussion on RFC-interest about the value of including postal addresses for RFC authors. 2.3. DOI update Heather Flanagan reported that she has some pricing information on digital object identifiers, and is looking into what sort of programming effort on the RFC Editor side would be required to put this in place. 2.4. Digital Archive Policy Heather Flanagan noted that the RFC Editor is both the publisher and archivist of the RFC Series, but does not currently have a digital archive policy. Heather reported that she has started work on such a policy. Bob Hinden agreed to forward her some information from a Harvard project about archiving material on the Internet. 3. Operational sanity check Heather Flanagan reported that 275 RFCs were published in 2013, which is a lower number than recent years; she suspects that the reason for this is the high turnover with old Working Groups shutting down and new Working Groups starting up. 3.1. Annual review Heather Flanagan reported that the annual review for the RFC Production Center is in progress. 3.2. Reminder: RFC Editor meeting 14-16 January 2014 Heather Flanagan reported that she will be meeting with the RFC Production Center at AMS on 14-16 January 2014.
