ITU-T Liaison Update Scott Mansfield joined the IAB to give an update on ITU-T activities. ITU-T has several Study Groups: • SG2 - Operational aspects of service provision and telecommunication management • SG3 - Tariff and accounting principles and international telecommunication/ICT economic and policy issues • SG5 - EMF, environment, climate action, sustainable digitalization, and circular economy • SG9 - Broadband cable and TV • SG11 - Signaling requirements, protocols, test specifications and combating counterfeit telecommunication/ICT devices • SG12 - Performance, QoS and QoE • SG13 - Future networks and emerging network technologies​ • SG15 - Networks, technologies and infrastructures for transport, access and home​ • SG16 - Multimedia and related digital technologies • SG17 - Security • SG20 - Internet of Things and smart cities & communities The World Telecommunication Standardization Assembly (WTSA) is the governing conference of the ITU Standardization Sector (ITU-T). Member States put forward candidates, and the Director of the TSB appoints the leaders from the pool of candidates. There are several ITU-T Study Group Proposals that will be considered at WTSA: • SG2 (Operational Aspects) - Operational aspects of telecommunication and ICTs - International telecommunication/ICT numbering, naming, addressing, and identification (NNAI) resources - Service provisioning - Telecommunications for Disaster Relief - Identity and Identification related to IoT • SG3 (Economic and Policy Issues) - For international telecommunication/ICT - Tariff and accounting principles - Economic issues - Policy issue • SG5 (Environment, EMF, Efficiency) - Electromagnetic compatibility (EMC), resistibility and lightning protection - Human exposure to EMF - e-Waste - Energy Efficiency, Clean Energy • SG9 (Broadband cable and TV) - Current plan is to merge this SG with SG16 - One Transport Equipment Question moves to SG15 • SG11 (Protocols, testing and combating counterfeiting) - Network Signaling, control architectures, and protocols • Non-radio part of IMT-2030 • SDN, NFV, FN, Cloud Computing, VoNR/ViNR - Test Specifications - Combatting Counterfeiting and Stolen ICT equipment • SG12 (Performance, QoS and QoE) - Quality of service and quality of experience - Driver Distraction - Quality assessment of video • SG13 (Future networks) - Quantum Communications and Quantum Networks - Networks beyond IMT-2020 - Network Softwarization - Convergence - Cloud Computing/Big Data End-to-End management and governance - FG on Artificial Intelligence Native for Telecommunication Networks (AINN) • SG15 (Transport, access and home) - Access Network Transport - Home Networking - Optical Technology • SG16 (Multimedia and digital technologies) - Planned to merge with SG9 - Multimedia technologies - IP-based television - Automotive-related intelligent services • SG17 (Security) - Security Model, Framework, Architecture and Lifecycle - Cybersecurity and Service - End-device, Edge, Network, Cloud, and Application Security - Identity Management - Directory, PKI, formal languages, object identifiers • SG20 (IoT, smart cities and communities) - Internet of Things (including identification) - Smart sustainable cities and communities (SSC&C) and related digital services, including effective energy management, digital twins and metaverse - Digital Health All in-force WTSA Resolutions can be found at: https://www.itu.int/pub/T-RES Scott Mansfield noted that there are several Resolutions that may impact the IETF, including YANG at Scale and Time Synchronization. 2. NEMOPs workshop preparation The IAB reviewed the proposal for an IAB workshop on the Next Era of Network Management Operations. The IAB agreed to post the initial workshop description with a note that the content is subject to change, and begin mentioning the workshop at various sessions during IETF 120. The official call for papers will follow in the next few weeks. 3. Executive Session: ICANN Board Liaison Appointment The IAB discussed the appointment of the IETF Liaison to the ICANN Board of Directors in an executive session.
