James is VP of Quality, Trust & Safety at the PharmaLedger Association, a Swiss not-for-profit healthcare technology ecosystem facilitator. He spends his time working on open source and technology standards development, with a particular focus on the regulation and governance within the regulated biopharma industry. Prior to his current role, he was Director of Technology Quality Compliance at Novartis AG and Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) at Lyfegen Inc, a digital health company.

James is a former Chair of the Board of Directors of Public Technical Identifiers (PTI) which is responsible for the operational aspects of coordinating the Internet’s unique identifiers and maintaining the trust of the community to provide these services in an unbiased, responsible and effective manner. Mainly, PTI is responsible for the operation of the IANA functions.

Additionally, he spent a number of years as an active member of the ICANN policy community with a focus on SSR topics. He has held multiple roles within the ICANN community, including being a Design Team Lead during the IANA Stewardship Transition, a member of the SSR2 and IANA Naming Function Review teams, and was a member of the GNSO Council.
