Vijay K. Gurbani

Vijay K. Gurbani is a Research Associate Professor at Illinois Institute of Technology. In addition, he holds an appointment as the Chief Data Scientist of Vail Systems, Inc., and is a Research Fellow at the University of Luxembourg. Prior to Vail Systems, Inc., Vijay spent 21 years at Bell Laboratories (owned first by Lucent Technologies, Inc., and then Alcatel-Lucent, and now owned by Nokia), and Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory. He has authored or co-authored over 60 papers in peer reviewed journals, conferences and workshops, five books, 19 Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) RFCs, and been granted 8 patents by the US Patent Office, many of which are also international patents. He holds a B.Sc. in Computer Science with a minor in Mathematics, a M.Sc. in Computer Science, both from Bradley University; and a Ph.D. in Computer Science from Illinois Institute of Technology. His research interests are multimedia protocols, security and privacy in multimedia protocols, and machine learning in the multimedia protocols and networks, including natural language processing.

He currently chairs the ALTO WG in IETF and has chaired the CUSS WG, which closed down after achieving its deliverables.
