Abstract When travelling on public transport, such as busses in London, mobile phones
often lose GPS signal. Busses themselves usually carry a more accurate gps detection device, attached to a mini computer which dynamically updates the location of bus on a sign
for passengers to see.
Combining this problem with the advanced gps detection of the bus, we can relay the location of the mobile phone using
a hidden wifi network.
Extending this to those without WifI access the standard goes one
stage further, by offering a hidden wifi network with a standard name,
such as .location. The principle being that mobile devices can
look for this network in cases where GPS data cannot be collected. It
is hoped that this will allow those using mapping services to know
where they are when travelling on underground trains etc.
