DMM

Mobility aware Transport Network Slicing for 5G

  • shared latest update and requested WG LC
  • Q: Asked the author to compare a TEAS draft: realization of 5G
Network Slice using IP/MPLS technologies (A: showed mapping of SR,
    VLAN, etc.).
  • Q regarding WG LC: suggest to coordinate with TEAS: make sure we
don't redefine anything that has been defined in TEAS
  • Q on mobility-aware transport vs. transport-aware mobility

Computing Aware Traffic Steering consideration for Mobile user Plane
Architecture

  • Q on clarification: what is session information (including CIS-ID,
TEID, etc.) shown in one slide? Where to find the CIS-ID in the
mobile network? (the answer implied the mobile-core (e.g., 5GS)
    would provide it).
  • Q: how a PE may get TEID since TEID is in mobile domain while a PE
is in IP domain? the work is based on DMM MUP architecture. The
chair suggested to clarify more on CIS-ID, TEID, etc.
  • Q on an IETF I.D. 'service metric': still not adopted by IETF,
    currently still an individual draft.

Mobile Traffic Steering

  • Q on 'non-routable IP traffic steering'
  • Asked the author to compare with LISP since a delegate believed LISP
could address almost all the issues described in the draft. Lots of
back-and-forth discussions on LISP (mapping space, transport nodes,
    etc.)
  • Q on why the DNN beyond N6 should have the capability to influence
the re-anchoring? A delegate voluteered some information of 3GPP
Edge-computing project, in which a KI is working to have external
    metrics influence the choice/re-choice (i.e., anchor/re-anchor) of
UPF (or called UPA in the draft). Also a UPF could use feedback info
(varieties of metrics) to select different servers.
  • Please be aware that anything proposed here in DMM/IETF, someone has
to bring the proposal to 3GPP for interwork discussion

MUP evolution:

  • add text regarding how CP/UP of the draft might be useful to future
    6G evolution.
  • WG having questions on subtle demarcation btwn IETF and 3GPP: like
what kinds of advisory references could be provided to 3GPP (from
    this IETF draft).
  • Asked by DMM co-chair: where is the implementation since this one
    has reached consensus
  • WG chairs suggested (a) summarizing all the authors have and then
send them for alias adoption-call discussion; (b) depend on the
    adoption-call feedback, might send a LS-out for 3GPP’s reference
toward the beginning of next year.

Emergency Calling (911/112/*) Services over Wi-Fi

  • The author ack'ed this draft is not in the DMM charter.
  • comments from last IETF-119. The main ideas are how we might extend
the DMM scope to accommodate the work.
  • clarification questions on where IMEI might exist; how to handle
credentials for mobile-domain authentication vs. wifi-domain.
  • Comments on location-based service, IMS call (); signalling is not
from the mobile domain; the focus is on wifi.
  • confirmed no protocol extension; so, one suggestion is to allocate
    the work to 'independent stream'.
  • one possible WG is 'ECRIT', but this group has not done the job.

End Marker in DN for Distributed UPF/ANUP

  • Regarding buffering vs. faster-network
  • Comments on applying MPTCP
  • Chair suggestions: if want to do any mobile work in IETF, please be
sure it is access-agnostic. That is, not specific to 3GPP
    technologies;
  • comments from the mobile-traffic steering author on (end-mark)
buffering mechanism/location. Reply is 'buffering is still in gNB'.
