Minutes from the DKIM WG Interim meeting 28-Jan-2026 21:00 UTC

Recording: https://meetecho-player.ietf.org/playout/?session=IETF-DKIM-20260128-2100

The chairs began the meeting at 21:03 UTC.

Chair Actions

  • Pete reminded participants that this is an official interim meeting, and all normal policies and procedures apply.
  • Meetecho tooling suggestions were also provided.
  • Minute-taking volunteers were identified.
  • The agenda was reviewed.

General Discussion

The two agenda items merged into one general discussion of the DKIM2 specification as proposed.

Bron led a long discussion of issues on the “message instance” topic. This led to a more general technical discussion of the overall proposal:

  • Cryptographical hashes and selection/declaration of included header fields are the ongoing controversial issues.
  • There was extended general discussion; see the meeting notes or the recording for details.

Chairs determined that further discussion within the WG is needed. No consensus decisions were made about the documents’ technical content.

There was brief discussion of the adoption of draft-clayton-dkim2-spec:

  • Pete: OK to adopt the document?
  • Richard: Seems close, give or take recent JSON proposal. Todd is
working on a local policy document. JSON is neat way to deal with
complexity of tags. Need to document carefully.
  • Pete: No other comments on adoption heard.

ACTION ITEM: Call For Adoption on draft-clayton-dkim2-spec to be done on the list.

Any Other Business

  • Pete: should we do this regularly?
  • John/Mike: reconsider after Shenzhen

Chairs determined that this discussion is tabled until after IETF 125.

Meeting adjourned at 22:44.
