DNSSEC Lookaside Validation (DLV) provided a useful transition mechanism to aid in the deployment of DNSSEC. The DNS root is now signed, as are the majority of TLDs, and so DLV can now be retired - the document [draft-ietf-dnsop-obsolete-dlv] reclassifies RFC4431 and RFC 5074 as historic.
