This note is to advise the IETF that the LZS and MPPC compression algorithms
are subject to patent and other intellectual property rights claims,
specifically U.S. patent numbers 4,701,745, 5,003,307, 5,016,009, 5,126,739,
5,146,221, 5,414,425, 5,414,850, 5,463,390, 5,506,580, 5,532,694.
Implementations of LZS and MPPC compression methods are referenced in certain
IETF documents, specifically RFC1967, RFC1974, RFC2118, RFC2395, RFC3078, and
RFC3943.

Software licenses for a reference implementation are available for
use in IPPCP, IPSec, PPP, in addition to TLS applications at no cost.

Software licenses are available on a non-discriminatory basis.
