Dear 802.11, The request to add Brainpool curves to the IKEv1 Group Description registry for use by IKEv1 did not garner much support in the IPSECME WG. However based on the IEEE request to add values for IEEE 802.11-2012 use, Sean Turner is willing to sponsor an internet-draft to address the request. The caveat is that the registry entries include a note indicating that they're for IEEE 802.11 use and not IKEv1 use. We believe this would satisfy the IEEE request. This request highlights that there is more than one registry that is used by multiple protocols. This is not a problem as long as all values in the registry are used by both protocols. This assignment request has illustrated an instance where this is not the case. The IESG believes dual use of registries should be discouraged. Sean Turner Security Area Director, IETF |
