The IETF appreciates the BBF reaching out regarding the status of the referenced drafts. The BBF is surely aware that these important drafts have been in development for a some time and are finally nearly done. Before answering your specific questions, please be aware that the drafts have all exited the NETCONF WG and are currently in the AD review phase, IETF LC, or in IESG Telechat, moving in that order. Once the last stage completes, the drafts will then move to RFC-Editor review phase and publication. Regarding the timeline for publication, this is difficult to predict with accuracy. It is author’s and AD’s intention to have them to the IESG by March. How long the IESG reviews take is unknown, but given these drafts have been through two Security reviews, their long development effort, and several implementations, it is anticipated that few issues will be found by the IESG. Still, this phase may take several weeks to complete. Upon being received by the RFC Editor, the drafts should be published a few weeks later. All said, a realistic estimate for publication is late Q2 2024. Regarding the stability of YANG modules, they are currently undergoing minor updates to, e.g., improve node names and validation expressions, found by the AD and other reviewers. Only after the drafts have exited the IESG review phase can the YANG modules be considered "technically stable” with only editorial changes expected from the RFC Editor review phase. Please keep in mind that Internet-Drafts are work in progress and should not be cited or quoted in any formal document. See the IETF page on Internet-Drafts <https://www.ietf.org/how/ids/> for details. Thank you for BBF's interest in the IETF YANG development work. As always, BBF participants are welcome to join IETF YANG development efforts by participating in the IETF process. Best, Per Andersson NETCONF WG co-chair |
