IETF#95 DMM WG meeting. Chairs: Jouni korhonen Dapeng Liu Notes taker: Charlie Perkins 10:00 Title: Administrivia & Intro, WG organization & milestones Presenter: Chairs Slides: https://www.ietf.org/proceedings/95/slides/slides-95-dmm-5.pdf = MNIDs draft in next couple of weeks with text as suggested for the many types of identifiers ------------------------------------------------------------ 10:15 Title: DMM Architectural Considerations & Deployment Models Presenter: Sri Gundavelli Draft: https://tools.ietf.org/html/ Slides: https://www.ietf.org/proceedings/95/slides/slides-95-dmm-8.pdf Discussion: Which functions can be virtualized [Converged Control Plane]? Answer: all of them, and each separately Discussion: How to manage flows through feature chains? Answer: This draft has to do with the gateways, not the feature chains. Answer: If features are known, then appropriate gateway can be chosen. Request for adoption after reviews. ------------------------------------------------------------ 10:35 Title: Protocol for Forwarding Policy Configuration (FPC) in DMM - update Presenter: Marco Liebsch Draft: https://tools.ietf.org/html/draft-ietf-dmm-fpc-cpdp-03 Slides: https://www.ietf.org/proceedings/95/slides/slides-95-dmm-6.pdf Support of two operational models = Be declarative: unambiguous rules for data-plane treatment = Be imperative: client interacts with agent controls setup of tunnels, QoS,... = TD: Traffic descriptor = Traffic treatment: encapsulation, IP+port rewriting, NSH, QoS = ... other protocol operations = Updated document expected within next month; should be ready for WGLC ------------------------------------------------------------ 10:55 Title: Evolving FPCP Presenter: Satoru Matsushima Draft: N/A Slides: https://www.ietf.org/proceedings/95/slides/slides-95-dmm-4.pdf = Must converge Model I and II = Distinguish abstraction from concrete instances = Worry that combining Model I and II might lose some important details = Jouni: should figure this out in the task group meetings? = Jouni: Who understands the issue? <answer -- not many people> --> call for better ------------------------------------------------------------ 11:05 Title: On Demand Mobility Management - update Presenter: Danny Moses Draft: http://tools.ietf.org/html/draft-ietf-dmm-ondemand-mobility-02 Slides: https://www.ietf.org/proceedings/95/slides/slides-95-dmm-2.pdf = Enable applications to indicate their IP continuity needs = Types of IP service, new error codes = Fixed / Sustained / Nomadic = Referenced by 3GPP SA2 activity for 5G (S2-161020 session continuity) = Behcet: there are more open issues than covered in this draft == concerns about "SUSTAINED" == Jouni: this document does not describe what happens on the network == Jouni: need to have a way to suggest need for IP address continuity = Marco: so far these characterizations are just for IP address continuity = Suresh: The "nomadic" address should just be called "IP address" = Charlie: What does the IPR cover? <answer: do not know> = Charlie: Term "IP address reachability" is misleading = Charlie: Term "IP service" can be approved ------------------------------------------------------------ 11:15 Title: DHCPv6 Extension for On Demand Mobility exposure - update Presenter: Danny Moses Draft: http://tools.ietf.org/html/draft-moses-dmm-dhcp-ondemand-mobility-02 Slides: https://www.ietf.org/proceedings/95/slides/slides-95-dmm-3.pdf = Discussion about IA_NA/IA_TA Option with a structure diagram == The IP Continuity Service Option comes after the Status Code Option under OPTION_IAADDR = Want to have some more feedback; document has been on the list for a year = Jouni: if there are going to be changes to the On-Demand document, we will have to wait a bit before going forward with this document = Sri: Need to show the relationship with On-Demand document = Danny: Not extending DHCPv6 to support multiple addresses = J-C: Like the document; does it need to be flagged to the DHC group = Suresh: There is RFC 7277 for how to write DHCP options, and this does not follow that document = Question about whether topic is acceptable for WG: ------------------------------------------------------------ 11:30 Title: Distributed Mobility Anchoring - update Presenter: Anthony Chan Draft: https://tools.ietf.org/html/draft-chan-dmm-distributed-mobility-anchoring-07 Slides: https://www.ietf.org/proceedings/95/slides/slides-95-dmm-7.pdf = May need to discuss about Nomadic address = Jouni: this document is Informational. Is there a plan for a protocol? = Anthony: This document would lead to a follow-on document for that. = Jouni: Any idea about how far away agreement is for this document? How close? ------------------------------------------------------------ 11:45 Title: 3GPP 5G and mobility - Discussion Presenter: Jouni korhonen Draft: N/A Slides: https://www.ietf.org/proceedings/95/slides/slides-95-dmm-0.pdf = Question: Does 3GPP exhibit much interest in the [dmm] framework? = Charlie: the downloadable slides do not have the arrows or functional blocks <answer: will provide powerpoint> = Mikael Abrahamson: question about tunneling... tunnel may be needed for legal intercept = Jouni: not at the point of specifying tunneling... = Sri: no explicit requirements from 3GPP, but they are borrowing many concepts defined here in IETF. Maybe we should start publishing more documents to 3GPP. = Jouni: to be effective it has to come from someone actually working in 3GPP = Suresh: If 3GPP puts out a dependency list, we can work from that = Danny: has colleagues who go to 3GPP. IETF is too slow in finalizing documents. It is our responsibility to drive these issues in 3GPP ------------------------------------------------------------ 12:00 Title: Distributed Mobility Management Protocol for WiFi Users in Fixed Network - update Presenter: Behcet Sarikaya Draft: https://tools.ietf.org/html/draft-sarikaya-dmm-for-wifi-04 Slides: https://www.ietf.org/proceedings/95/slides/slides-95-dmm-1.pdf = Jouni: How many people have read the draft? <answer: almost no one> = Charlie: Can this system architecture be made to correspond to the [dmm] architecture proposals = Mikael: Problems in performance with way netconf is invoked ------------------------------------------------------------ ** MIP maintenance track ** 12:10 Title: Virtual CPE Deployment Considerations - new Presenter: Byju Pularikkal Draft: https://tools.ietf.org/html/draft-pularikkal-virtual-cpe-00 Slides: https://www.ietf.org/proceedings/95/slides/slides-95-dmm-9.pdf = Danny: It's more than just a bridge. = Operators view existing architecture as a huge cost compared to virtual. = Jouni: extensions to FPC? = Sri: if extensions are small, could prefer to extend the existing document = Satoru: Do you prefer Model I or Model II = Sri: Pushing control choices out in a single message = Satoru: Model I would seem to be more appropriate? = Danny: Is each packet routed to V-CPE? = Sri: Not necessarily data, but just control = Marco: separate document? or requirements? = Sri: a standalone document is preferable, different use case...
