IETF-3GPP coordination IETF 118

Monday, 6 November, 1145 - 1245, Palmovka 1/2
Webex: https://ietf.webex.com/meet/ietfsidemeeting2

Agenda
- Welcome, notetakers, agenda bash
- Teleconferences between IETF meeting
- Liaison Statements
- 3GPP SA3 and RAN3 -> IETF TSVWG - TSVWG design team for DTLS/SCTP requirements to be presented at TSVWG meeting later today, will update SA3 and RAN3 when this work is progressing
- 3GPP SA5 -> IETF NETMOD - draft-ma-netmod-immutable-flag being discussed for adoption, but some contention about not wanting to break the YANG architecture, NETMOD to update SA5 with results when they are available
- IETF TEAS -> 3GPP SA2, SA3, SA5, RAN3 - updating 3GPP on IETF definition of "network slices", which are not the same as 3GPP "network slices". RAN3 noted this LS, TEAS hoping for feedback from SA5, which has similar work underway

  • Dependencies

    • RFC 9410 and 9430 have been published
    • other STIR documents in RFC Editor queue, noting that there's an incorrect draft reference in 33.127
    • DETNET YANG model is addessing AD evaluation and feedback, additional draft bridging IETF and 3GPP DETNET model needs review in both organizations
    • QUIC Multipath is still in the working group, but is moving along. Mostly motivated by 3GPP use cases, but multipath model may change as browser vendors deploy it - "multipath is inherently hard"
    • draft-jesskey-update-p-visited-network has been languishing for a while, another WGLC will include in new draft-rfc-7969bis document, Roland is willing to act as editor for this draft (with -ietf- in the filename)
    • draft-boro-opsawg-teas-attachment-circuit is progressing in the working group, has been adopted by WG
    • draft-schwarz-mmusic-sdp-for-gw needs expertise, but people who were interested/have expertise in H.248 have moved on. May not be critical, not many implementations and not many products. Tell CT4 this may not be moving forward, and see who really cares
    • draft-jeong-6man-ipv6-over-5g-v2x - LS from ITU CITS to 3GPP and other SDOs, not to IETF, but draft is on 6MAN agenda at IETF 118. CT1 is relevant 3GPP group
    • Three DMM drafts are out for adoption or in discussion, 3GPP not planning to use SRv6 for 5G, but possibly for 6G in Rel-20 or Rel-21
    • Peter is tracking dependencies manually until we can fix the automated tool
  • Coordination email list

    • Everyone knows about the mailing list, right?
    • Charles contacting IESG members who aren't on the list, and sending them invitations
    • Anyone can subscribe
  • RFC 3113 update

    • This is a good thing to do, but not critical/urgent.
    • Charles and Suresh stepping up, Spencer is happy to put RFC 3113 in GitHub and collect issues
    • Lars points out this is published in the Legacy stream, so we need to pick a stream if we publish an update
    • RFC 3113 had handshaking with 3GPP for approval - we need to do that here as well.
  • 3GPP Tutorial

    • Jeffrey Zhang willing to put together a 3GPP technology tutorial for the IETF community, and deliver as a side meeting?
    • Could be Technology Deep Dive (Warren Kumari) or Sunday afternoon tutorial
    • Needs to roughly reflect 3GPP's understanding of their own technology (no rebuttals during the tutorial!)
  • Datatracker changes

    • Handling liaison statements
    • Organizing, sharing materials, capturing minutes from coordination meetings - datatracker isn't actually set up for private activities
  • AoB

    • Charles mentioned two side meetings of interest at IETF 118
    • Lars reminded us that side meetings have no official standing
    • IESG is creating a new area (Web and Internet Transport, or WIT) between now and IETF 119. Will not change any chartered work, only who is managing some of it
